Live Admission Control for Video Streaming

چکیده
Abstract: The core aspect of most multimedia applications is the transmission of Variable Bit Rate (VBR) video streams requiring a sustained relatively high bandwidth with stringent Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. In such systems, a statistical bandwidth estimation is especially relevant as it is indispensable for implementing an efficient admission control. In this paper a novel measurement-based admission control algorithm has been developed for video distribution systems. Such an algorithm estimates the bandwidth occupied by the actual video streams, observing their temporal evolution in a chosen measurement window. In particular, for each video stream, the estimation procedure needs an online measurement of the bandwidth values assumed successively and their persistence time. An exponential weighted moving average filter is used for smoothing the estimated values. Finally, some measurement of video traffic are shown, discussing the effectiveness of the considered solution.

Modeling live adaptive streaming over HTTP
Video streaming methods have evolved greatly over the years. Today, the most prevalent technique to stream live and video on-demand is the adaptive HTTP streaming and is used by several commercial vendors. In this paper, we pesent an approximate analytic model for live adaptive streaming over HTTP. Using this model, we propose a new rate control algorithm that makes the rate transitions less fr...

Multiple description (MD) coding has evolved as a promising technique for promoting error resiliency of multimedia system in real-time application programs over error-prone communicational channels. Although multiple description lattice vector quantization (MDCLVQ) is an efficient method for transmitting reliable data in the context of potential error channels, this method doesn’t consider disc...
متن کاملModeling User Behavior in P2P Live Video Streaming Systems through a Bayesian Network
Live video streaming over a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) architecture is promising due to its scalability and ease of deployment. Nevertheless, P2P-based video streaming systems still face some challenges regarding their performance. These systems are in fact overlays of users who control peers. As peers depend upon each other for receiving the video stream, the user behavior has an impact over the perfo...

متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
